Why start with problems? Clients don't buy consulting — they buy solutions to problems that cost them real money. The most successful consultants solve problems that are both common (many organisations face them) and costly (six- to seven-figure impact). If the problem is merely interesting but not expensive, you'll always be last on the budget list.

List the specific problems you could help solve. Be concrete — think about problems with six-figure-plus impact.

The Six-Figure Test: For each problem, ask yourself: "Could the cost of NOT solving this be over $100,000 per year?" If yes, you have a problem worth building a practice around. Problems that cause regulatory risk, revenue loss, or operational failure get funded. Problems that are merely interesting do not.
